Academic Honesty:

Cheating involves: Looking at another persons test, talking during tests, using extra materials during test, stealing tests, taking photos of test, copying homework, taking credit for another persons work, copying anything from another student not including notes, allowing a student to look at your test, responding to a person talking during the test, sending photos of the test to friends, allowing a student to copy your homework. This list is not inclusive of all types of cheating.

ALL CHEATING WILL BE REPORTED!!!!!!!!!!!

Much of this course will take place online. Outside of class, students will need to watch videos online and write summaries and comment to peers. Students without access to the internet at home are welcome to come in during lunch or before 3:15 and use my computer or iPad to complete their assignments.

Notes and Class-work:

For this class students will need a designated notebook. Each set of notes is worth 5 points earned by writing the essential question, taking the notes, and by answering the essential question in complete sentences. Daily class-work will take place in this note-book. Class-work and in-class participation are a large part of this course.

All warm-ups will count for 2 points unless given as a mini-quiz.

Homework:

Homework will be based on using the internet. Homework will require access to Canvas and may include writing a summary, creating and solving a problem, commenting on peer responses or continuation of class-work not finished.

Tests and Quizzes

Tests are given at the end of a chapter, and on the test day students must turn in their homework packets which include notes. Tests are usually both free response and multiple-choice. All tests include a written element. Test corrections are available for all students and can be done during morning tutorial. Students can earn up to half the points they missed by correcting the problem and writing a reflection for each problem. Students cannot do test corrections on problems they left blank or did not try.

Quizzes are typically given throughout the chapter and come in many forms: mini-quizzes can be given at the beginning or end of a class period and students are allowed to use their notes and homework on mini-quizzes. These are usually between 3-8 points.

Self Created quizzes: these are given in class and students are given the written parameters for each question. Students are responsible for creating a problem that fits the parameters and solving the problem. Some variations may include creating a multiple choice test, or working in a group to create the test.

Traditional Quizzes: benchmark the chapter and are often corrected in-class for immediate feedback.

Earning an A on a test will exempt you from homework if it helps your grade.

Grading Rubric:

Tests/ Quizzes ----------------- 50%

Notes/ Class-work ------------ 20%

Homework ----------------------- 10%

Final ------------------------------- 15%

Project/Performance--------------5%

Projects:

Projects are given at the end of the semester as a wrap-up activity. Projects can be group or individual. Often choices will be provided, more information to follow.

EXTRA CREDIT:

Extra credit is available almost every day. Students can earn 1 point extra credit by attending tutorial and working on math. There is no restriction on this credit. Students can also earn extra credit by attending afterschool tutoring in the library and working on Math homework. This will count for 2 points if you stay the full hour. Extra credit is also available by doing test corrections. To earn test correction points you must have attempted the problem. Students come to tutorial and request test corrections they can ask for help, use their notes or collaborate with peers to get the correct work and answer. Students will write a reflection explaining what they did wrong and what they now know; without the reflection sentences no credit will be given. Additional extra credit is often given in-class for positive participation in going over the homework.
