Mr. Goodenough's 8th grade Science Class:


My mission:

To prepare my students for their future in a digital world where they have the ability to think using the 4 D's:
Define a problem

    1. Design a solution
    2. Do the work
    3. Debrief what they have learned. 

Everything we do in my class will be based on these 4 things.

Snake Rules:
We have a class pet named Monty. He’s a Ball Python. He is very friendly and likes to be held.

  • No opening of Monty’s aquarium without permission.
  • No taping on the glass.
  • Only Mr. Goodenough can give a student permission to hold Monty.

In order to maintain a learning environment the following honor code will be modeled and followed:

A Commitment to Honor

As a student of Jenks Middle School, I am responsible for upholding and promoting honesty, trust, respect, and fairness in all venues of school life.

I will represent Jenks Middle well with my actions both during school and in public.
I understand that I am a reflection of the high expectations and tradition of excellence of both Jenks Middle School and Jenks Public Schools.
I will conduct myself in a way that will not distract my fellow students as they pursue a quality education that is a right of every student at Jenks Middle School.
I will not take the right to teach away from my teachers and I will show respect to both my peers and those in authority of me.
I will uphold and promote personal and academic integrity and support it in others.
I will commit to do my very best in all I do and expect the same from my peers. I will not cheat, steal, or lie.
I will not misrepresent myself, my peers, the teachers and staff, or my academic work.
I will protect the right of all students and staff at Jenks Middle School to be safe and I will not participate in or ignore any form of bullying including cyber-bullying.

I solemnly promise to uphold my commitment to honor this code and follow the procedures and expectations of the Jenks Middle School student handbook.


Use of Laptops:
Students will be using laptops everyday in my class. To ensure the use of the laptops for the entire school year the following expectations and procedures must be followed:

1. Students are only to use the laptop assigned to them.
2. Students are responsible for their laptop at all times.
3. Laptops are only to be carried with the screen closed.
4. Laptops must be put in the correct charging slot at the end of each class period.
5. No downloading or installing of any software, code, plug-in, etc without permission from Mr. Goodenough.
6. Any form of cyber bullying will not be tolerated. Class and School consequences will be given.
7. Damages to your laptop caused by neglect will be your responsibility.

Every student will have access to a Google Docs account. This service will be used to create and collaborate assignments. The honor code will be applied to this service as well. The following will be prohibited:

1. Giving out of your password to access your account.
2. Any form of plagiarism or cheating.
3. Any form of games or coding during instruction time.

Student or can not use this above services will not be allowed to use a laptop and if behavior continues, student may be moved to a team that does not use laptops on a daily basis.

This is going to be a great year and I'm looking forward to all that my students are going to teach me about their generation. I do have a few procedures and expectations in my classroom.

1. All student use the SMART Board to check in to class everyday.
2. Students may NOT check other students in.
3. I do NOT give out locker and bathroom passes, please plan accordingly.
* If you do need to go to your locker/restroom right before the tardy bell rings, let me know and I will NOT count your tardy. Please do not abuse this privilege.
4. Students are to remain their assigned seats unless given permission to move.
5. I dismiss the class when the following are completed. I will hold up my hand with all five fingers extended to indicate that the students are dismissed.

 

  1. Laptops are plugged in. (Passed down to end of your row.)
  2. Trash is picked up.
  3. Desk are lined up with marks on floor. 
  4. Everyone is seated in assigned seat. 
  5. Everyone is quiet. 


6. Students are to respect each other by not touching another student or my stuff without permission.
