Course Focus:  Shakespeare/Renaissance Literature

In this undergraduate Humanities Course on Renaissance Literature (The focus is on The Sonnets, “Hamlet: Prince of Denmark and The Tempest”, plus some other selections), we will read, contextualize, formulate and advance individual arguments for, or against; and produce 3 short critiques on the different texts assigned in class (5 sonnets, Hamlet: Prince of Denmark and The Tempest) all with the overarching theme of: “man is the measure of all things”. All students will have additional readings on The Renaissance spirit, language, poetic composition, writing and theatrical presentations, available through canvas, facebook group page and a course reader. As for their Mid-term and Final outputs the students will have to present first a proposal for an individual critique (Midterm) and a final term paper (Final) on a chosen literary piece from the Renaissance period (focus literary piece must not be from the list of selections taken in class), and a presentation of the critique in a colloquium as part of their deliverables.
