Course Length: There is no set time. Participants can work at his/her own pace. Course is available 24 hours/ day.
Overall Objective: Teachers, counselors, career professionals, and parents learn how to identify the right career test, assess interests, explore careers, and identify potential college majors.
Course Description:
Career Decision Making Tools is a course offered to students, adults, teachers, counselors, parents, and career professionals. The resources are designed to help students and adults build self-awareness and knowledge of careers. The course is offered by the Holland Codes Resource Center.

Core Course Objectives:
Teachers, counselors, career professionals, and parents will be able to -
- Learn criteria to purchase the right career test
- Gain awareness of RIASEC or Holland Codes
- Understand the relationship between Holland Codes and student's likes/ dislikes
- Identify student’s primary Holland Code
- Discover several ways to classify occupations
- Locate information on career websites, videos, and books
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the Test Drive Your Career course, students, teachers, counselors, career professionals, and parents will have an overview of the Holland Codes, careers, and college majors.
By the end of the Test Drive Your Career course, students will be able to do the following activities -
- State a definition of RIASEC or Holland Codes
- Identify Holland Codes
- Use career assessment to match career to Holland Code
- Describe a career that interests them
- List potential post-secondary training programs
- Identify supplemental career websites, videos, and books

Step 3: Complete the My Career Profile Inventories -
Step 4: Finish Career Match Making Using Interests, Values, Skills, and Personality Styles activities.
Step 5: Use Research a Career Tool.
Step 6: Build list of potential careers
Step 7: Perform Search for College Tool.
Step 8: Make a list of potential college majors.
Step 9: For additional activities, print and administer the following resources –
- Flash Cards
- Bingo Cards
- Career books and web sites
Step 10: Complete other Career Planning activities.
