Imelda Gasmen
Kumusta? Mabuhay! I’m Imelda F. Gasmen. You can call me Ime. I am currently teaching Filipino [the Philippine national language] with the UH Filipino Language & Philippine Literature Program under the Department of Indo-Pacific Languages and Literatures. Prior to transplanting in the United States, I worked at the University of the Philippines [where I also obtained my undergraduate degree] both in research and teaching. I came to UH as a graduate student over two decades ago. To keep up with most of my students who are digital natives, I have attempted to integrate a few technologies into the classroom. I use Laulima a lot & have made myself available on skype for online consultation. I also have used online tools for speaking and listening such as the Rich Internet Applications with the Michigan State University. I have also allowed smart phones to be used for online dictionaries when we do reading or other activities in class.
