COMP 701: IT APPLICATIONS AND MANAGEMENT (30/30: CF 3.0)
General introduction to microcomputers; Ms Office; Introduction to database management; Basic data tabulation and analysis. Documentation and referencing system. Document formatting and presentation; LaTex. Internet search engines: e-mail systems.
Goal: To provide students with the opportunity to acquire basic computer and digital literacy skills and knowledge.
Objectives:
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

Use productivity software including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access to carry our common document preparation, presentation, numerical analysis and database management tasks.

Use the Internet and the World Wide Web for email, web search and blogging.
- Create basic web pages.
- Describe microcomputer components and their functions
- Explain how to optimize microcomputer performance
- Describe common security vulnerabilities and risks as well as measures to protect data and systems from such risks and how to reduce or remove such vulnerabilities.
- Design and implement basic document layout for reports including use of tables of content, foot notes, end notes and citations.
