Course Syllabus
Prerequisites: Successful completion of Pre-Algebra or appropriate placement on college approved placement assessment.
Course Description: This course is the study of basic algebraic operations and concepts, and the structure and use of algebra. This includes the solutions to algebraic equations, factoring algebraic expressions, working with rational expressions and graphing of linear equations.
Global Objectives: This course is designed to focus on the global objectives of reasoning mathematically, solving problems combining and applying knowledge from multiple sources, and thinking critically.
Course Level (Modular) Learning Objectives: Students will complete an assessment every 8-10 days where they will demonstrate the ability to solve problems on the following topics:
- Simplify and solve linear equations and expressions including problems with absolute value and applications
- Solve inequalities; find equations of lines; and solve application problems.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide various types of polynomials.
- Factor polynomials and simplify square roots
- Evaluate, simplify, multiply, divide, add and subtract rational expressions and solve basic applications of rational expressions.
