Course Description
Welcome! In this course you will be introduced to innovative online teaching and learning tools. These tools will help instructors simplify and improve their online teaching effectiveness while building a greater sense of community. Come on in and make some waves!

This Canvas course content is divided into learning modules. The learning modules will guide students through the training course.
1. Module 01 – Disrupting Class: Find out about how technology is innovating education.
2. Module 02 – Instructure – Canvas: Learn about the new open LMS from Instructure.
3. Module 03 – Mega-Rippin’ Teaching: SURFing through online courses can sometimes seem overwhelming. Let’s create some waves!
4. Module 04 – Building Community: Learn to use the tools that help create a sense of community in the online classroom.
5. Module 05 – Essential Surfing Gear: Learn how to use effective tools to help you become a professional SURFer!
6. Module 06 – Challenge Based Research: Learn about how Challenge Based Research can help disrupt and create waves in your online classroom.
Course Activities and Assessment Methods
1. Faculty Training Course: You have been given student-level access to this course. The activities in this course include:
a. Learning Modules: Each Module hosts links to read and tutorials to watch.
b. Participating in Discussion Forums: You are required to respond to all discussion forums. Rubric is attached to each discussion.
c. Online Survey: You will take one survey in Module 1 to help the instructor better understand your current online teaching level.
d. Submitting Assignments: Online faculty trainees will submit their Challenge Based Research findings in Module 6.
