Course Description:

The GNU/Linux shell scripting course covers basic shell scripting, focusing on its use in system administration. The primary shell used in the course is bash, but other shells can be covered as appropriate to the needs of the students in the particular class. The couerse also covers topics such as globbing, regular expressions and common tools such as find, grep and sed.

The two primary goals are for students to become more comforatable using the command line and for students to use scripting for daily automation tasks. Additionally, students will become more fluent with common *NIX utilities.

  • Demonstrations

 

Student Responsibilities:

 

You are expected to spend several hours per class period outside of class on homework, reading assignments, materials review and self-directed exploration. Aside from the first class, you are expected to finish reading materials before class.

 

For any industry that is constantly changing each person in the industry must take indvidual responsibility for their continued learning. You are responsible to make sure you are learning and you are practicing new skills.

 

You are also expected to attend all class meetings; ask questions; seek clarification if you don't understand something and provide assistance to the class in general and other students individually. It is important that you participate in class discussions, study hours and other activities.

If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to ask other students what you missed and make sure you catch back up with the rest of the class.

 

Class Policies:

 

Class policies will be posted to the class web page and updated throughout the semester. It is the student's responsibility to be aware of class policies and follow them for any work to be turned in, including exams.
