Job Search Preparation
This class presents a quick, meaningful way to implement start your job search. Through the assignments and exercises in this class, you will compile important personal, educational, and career information. After that, you will be presented with a Job Search Portfolio, consisting of a binder for in-print documentation, a portable storage unit for all job search related electronic documents, and a Google Docs account to give you online access to your documents from anywhere there's an Internet connection. You will incorporate the information and documentation created in the workshops into the Job Search Portfolio. Your completed portfolio will enable you to showcase your acquired learning, increase your chances for quality employment, and reflect achievement of what you have learned.
Through a step-by-step process, you will explore a variety of career options, identify your interests and abilities, and ultimately make informed decisions regarding what job/career to pursue, training and/or educational programs that are necessary to fulfill your career goals.
Goals
- Understand the importance of your interests, values and qualities in pursuing a job
- Create a realistic job search plan according to your interest, personality and educational level
- Learn to research information about jobs, salaries and opportunities available (i.e., using the Occupational Outlook Handbook)
- Understand the importance of acquiring and using computers and technology in the process if searching for a job
- Learn about available resources to learn or improve computer skills
- Learn to network with people in the industry of your interest to find information about jobs (job shadowing)
- Organize the job search process by obtaining and maintaining a central point for documents, job search logs, and other related documentation, in print, stored in electronic format, and/or online

Requirements for Completion
- Learners must attend all four sessions.
- Learners must be on time for every session and stay through the entire duration of each session.
- Learners must participate in all activities and follow the instructor’s directions
- Learners must have an LMS account, log in and participate in all forums, dicsussions, chats, and other activities
- Learners must complete all exercises and assignments
- The time for the class is limited. Therefore, there is no time for cell phone conversations, chatting or other outside activities. Use the classroom time only for classroom activities.
- No food or beverages are allowed in the computer lab.
- Be mindful and respectful of others.
