Instructions
PART 1: Review the Vocabulary, Notes, and Discussion Questions from the Whale Rider notes packet.
PART 2: Part of this test will be your PERSONAL SPEECH that you make, similar to Paikea's in the movie.
Here is Ms. Thorpe's example:
I would like to dedicate this speech to my mother and father, who gave me my identity. My name is Christa Marie Thorpe, and I come from Maine in New England, where my father ancestor Henry Thorp came nearly four hundred years ago. My parents named me Christa after Christ who is the God of Christianity, because they believe that God made me special. They also believe that all human beings have the same mother and father, Adam and Eve, who were created by God in the Garden of Eden a long, long time ago.
I don't know what I believe about where we came from, but I do know that when I learn about my ancestors, and when I learn about other people and other cultures, I feel that we are all connected. That connection makes us stronger. I believe that if we learn more about ourselves and one another, we can have a more peaceful and beautiful world.
